At the January 21 Board of Education Meeting, students from Benavides STEAM Academy, Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy and East Aurora High School accepted the trophy for their school, as each of the three schools won the District Reading Challenge for reading the most books per student.
The Reading Challenge took place during the first semester of the school year, with students at all grade levels district encouraged to read at least one book per week. In the end, the elementary, middle, and high school grade level with the highest percentage of books read per student would win the challenge and be awarded a trophy for their schools bragging rights.
In the final week of the challenge alone, elementary students read 13,693 books; middle schools read 339 books; and high school students read 40 books!
