Student Conducting Experiment 2

Today the science class was studying Potential and Kinetic Energy Lab, which caused a chemical energy lab.

2 experiments performed today that released energy were:

1.  Students pour Pop Rocks candy into the balloon, cover the bottle opening with the balloon, and then allow the candy to fall into the soda. The release of carbon dioxide from both the Pop Rocks and the soda causes the release of the gas into the balloon, partially filling it.

2.  Baking soda and vinegar react with each other because of an acid-base reaction. Baking soda is a bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and vinegar is an acetic acid (HCH3COO). One of the products this reaction creates is carbon dioxide.  The potential energy was released causing a fizz reaction.
